I have gravitated towards engineering, design and fabrication since childhood.
I have qualifications and training in design and fabrication, but most of my ability is derived from experience and learning from others.
I watched my father design and build beautiful and practical things from bricks, timber, metals, plastics, glass, stone, electrical components, plumbing materials, concrete, tiles and even plants. I learned from and copied him, and wrongly assumed everyone could make amazing things. Perhaps it is conditioning, perhaps in the blood, but I have spent a considerable part of my life following his footsteps. This constant magnetism and drive to build things has often been part of my live due to an intrusive urge to do a better job than anyone else, necessity if I can’t afford to pay other people, and also to learn – which sometimes involves valuable help from experts I have had the good fortune to meet.
